Greenhouse Gas Abatement Projects

EnergyConsult's project work includes:

  • Advising on the community engagement, abatement actions, education and measurement of the national Cool Communities program. This project involved working with both urban, rural and remote communities across Australia and a range of energy efficiency, transport and waste abatement actions. (Cool Communities Project Report) (Cool Communities Web site)
  • Forecasting and assessing the potential impacts and costs of the Victorian Greenhouse Strategy. This project covered greenhouse activities across all sectors and required the utilisation of a variety of greenhouse abatement calculations and Kyoto methodologies. (View Program Web site)
  • Planning, design and contribution to a range of greenhouse abatement /energy efficiency programs for the residential and small business sectors.  This has involved designing programs, forecasting impacts, development of program incentives and developing communication and training materials.  Programs range from solar hot water investment schemes, second refrigerator disposal, space heater replacement programs, to ESCO development and contributing to the Greenhouse Challenge Plus.
  • Development and review of residential Home Energy Rating Schemes (HERS), the potential introduction of mandatory disclosure of energy ratings and evaluation of the impact of such schemes.

Greenhouse Gas Measurement

EnergyConsult believe that measurement of an organisation or project’s greenhouse gas impacts is a key ingredient in any plan or program to reduce greenhouse emissions, especially if the goal is to be carbon neutral!

EnergyConsult has advised, conducted or evaluation on the measurement of over 100 programs or projects.  These measurement projects have ranged assessing the greenhouse gas emissions of small organizations through to developing measurement methods for major commercial, industry and government projects.

EnergyConsult are experts in the measurement requirements based on the Kyoto protocol and have developed a range of measurement and estimation approaches for energy, transport and waste activities consistent with the protocol. We are highly experienced in the collection of emission-related data from a variety of organizations and in the presentation and reporting of our greenhouse measurements to a wide variety of audiences.  Our project work includes:

  • Developing data collection and measurement methods for organisations involved in the national Cool Communities program.
  • Implementing measurement methods and measuring the transport, energy and waste projects of 37 communities.
  • Developing the measurement and reporting strategy for the national Solar Cities program, which includes dozens of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in the commercial and residential sectors.
  • Stipulating measurement requirements and determining the greenhouse abatement impacts of 55 transport, residential, commercial and local government projects which received support under the Community Action Fund.
  • Advising on the measurement and reporting requirements for the Energy Efficiency Opportunities program.
  • Measurement of the dozens of projects undertaken as part of the Victorian Greenhouse Strategy, which included assisting in the data collection of energy usage and transport usage of government agencies.
  • Past member of panel of independent verifiers for the Greenhouse Friendly Program run by the Australian Greenhouse Office
  • Development of a training workbook and emission calculation models for greenhouse reduction strategies in the transport sector.
    (Workbook on Transport Report)
  • Reviewed the data collection, measurement and management of all programs conducted under the Australian Greenhouse Office.
  • Market Research that assessed the attitudes of senior managers in the corporate sector to carbon offset investments as a greenhouse gas abatement strategy. (View Program Web site)

Greenhouse Inventories and Carbon Neutral Planning

EnergyConsult has assisted in the measurement of the greenhouse gas impact or inventory of dozens of organizations in the community, commercial and government sectors.  (See Greenhouse Measurement)

As progressive organisations recognise the need to understand their greenhouse gas impact, whether as part of their social obligations or as a risk management strategy, EnergyConsult can assist in the preparing and reporting of their greenhouse inventory.  We also can assist in developing plans to reduce an organisation’s greenhouse impacts or to achieve carbon neutral status using our many years of experience in energy efficiency and greenhouse abatement projects.

We offer services to assist organisations to:

  • Define their greenhouse/ carbon measurement and reporting requirements relevant to their organisation
  • Prepare greenhouse inventories, according to accepted Australian and international standards
  • Clarify their greenhouse reduction goals and develop realistic plans to meet those goals
  • Assistance in pricing and implementing greenhouse abatement plans, including in energy efficiency, carbon offset and renewable power options.
  • Obtain marketing and organisational culture gains from their greenhouse initiatives.

Please contact Murray Pavia, Ph:  03 9399 8337 to discuss your requirements and how we may assist.
